I really love the wren.

Spring atmosphere oozes from them

Today was a wonderful spring day as well, but I got quite different results in a foresty area. The spring colors are visible though. This is one of a Ringneck parakeet, a bird not at all indigenous to where I live, although now more and more common (with the Sigma 500/4.5 and 1.4tc):
Yes, it was a beautifull springday.
Nice series.

Thanks, I thought I try something else than a closeup. It worked out quite nicely.

Here's a few from the last couple days as I get the feel for the beamer I just put on my 540 flash. All taken with a A*300 F4 on a K20, camera JPEG's with various degrees of cropping. Found I needed to aim the flash with some foam shims on the flash head. I also cut a piece of foam to fit between the bottom of the flash and camera body. Any tips for using a flash beamer?
Also very nice series, Mike.

Very nice shots from Jacco , Gary. Chris and Mike

You have an advantage Jacco , Holland is one big wet land area
Haha, actually it`s quite restricted. In my area is 50% urban and the rest is allmost entirely sealed off by farmers, fences and dogs. And the few places that are free to enter are usually crawling with tourists or other photogs

I passed two opportunities today in my travels where I could have gotten almost as close, one was riding the wind over the Columbia river about 10 feet from the edge of the bridge I was driving across, and a second one was on a rail trestle frame that runs parallel to the highway, maybe 40 feet away from the side of the road. My bad, I didn't stop.
Almost worth a trip over just for those Ospreys, about 150m is the closest I've come here !

Love the Godwit TenZ - ours are out on the mudflats or on the shallow inland ponds. I actually like #2 the best !

Lovely shots as always Gaz - Blue Tit and Nuthatch are my favourites

Nice series Mike - not 100% sure the beamer is helping that much though - if you can get the shutter up in natural light it's a winner !

I guess yours are the bar-tailed Godwits, we call them roze (pink) Grutto.

Very nice captures! Looks like the 500mm and the 1.4TC are a very cood combination.

This isn't much, but considering what I used to get it, I'm thrilled.

Cheap Quantaray 500mm f/8 lens with a cheap Albinar 2X teleconverter attached, handheld from maybe 15 to 20 feet away. Unresized, slight cropping (so I could level the wire) so if viewed in full it's pretty darn huge. I'm pretty certain I was stopped down to f/11 or maybe even f/16 when I shot this.

The EXIF lies, it was actually a 1000mm equivalent (1500mm when you add in crop factor).

The 500mm and 400mm sibling I have of these lenses are nice because they're stupid-light, but shots like these don't come easy or often, they're crazy slow and even worse if I have a TC attached.

Thanks, yes, I'm slowly growing into this combo. Auto focus on the K5IIs can be a challenge, depending on the circumstances, but accuracy is generally very good. It's about the limit that I can shoot handheld I guess, but SR on the K5IIs is helping a lot.
The Oystercatchers mating was kind of special for me, I grew fond of the sound of the Oystercatchers up in the air on seaside holidays in summer.

Blue Jay - it makes a change from Juncos

This blue jay dropped in long enough for one shot.

Another osprey. This nesting site has been used successfully almost every year. It is 50-60 feet from the edge of the highway.

Actually we have both Bar-tailed (rarer) and Black-tailed (more common) and luckily both in this area
