Mawson lectured my father. You have given me an idea....

Nice image of a a bust with a lot of character, as well as history (thanks for the info). Even though the background is a bit busy, the bust is strong enough to make this work, the archways and wrought-iron fence (and old stone wall beneath) creating a feeling of history to go with the historic figure.

Thanks for the history lesson. And thanks for the neat picture, really smooth bokeh from the M85.
  4. jmschrei
I like the noisy bokeh background, I think it creates a nice backdrop for the statue. Interesting biographical information too.
  5. OzzRod
The bust seems bold enough to hold the fence at bay and combined they produce a very nice overall tone. Thanks too for the history - wasn't aware of his SA connections.
  6. mattt
Any particular reason why the brass is burnished under his eye? Bokeh Wednesday and fence Friday in one shot... you're good
  7. southlander
@ Mattt. No idea. I did spot remove a distracting bit of tree blossom stuck to his right eyebrow by a spiderweb.
  8. ramseybuckeye
Thanks for the history lesson, I like the photo, I think the fence makes a nice background.
  9. pdophoto
I like it. You have to analyse the photo to discover the background. Once you did, it looks like the normal park memorial that it is.
  10. southlander
The background is the front fence and behind that one of the sandstone buildings of the university at which he was a professor. So the OOF content is "subject relevant" even if a little busy.
  11. donras
Nice study and well separated from the background. That burnished area was formed by tears that he is not so famous as his Antarctic mates. Mawson does have a bit of a hollow look, especially the eyes. Did you get a model release?
  12. twilhelm
Nice shot. Great separation from the background which looks very much in context. The bit of biography was rather interesting.
  13. WWIFA
If you missed the focus a bit, I can't see it. The separation from the background is very good. Interesting history. too. I'm reading a book about the history of arctic explorers and life in the arctic.
  14. Bramela
A lot of character in that shot, excellent!
