Sishir, the DA* 300 is by far the only option Pentax has left us with... it is really sad that they don't offer us longer glass for serious wildlife work. As far as I am concerned, reach dominated all else for me, so the DA* 200/2.8 wasn't even a consideration, especially since we don't even get decent, practical teleconverters from Pentax. I even mulled going in for a Tamron/Sigma 70-200/2.8 + TCs, but found none that would work with.
Having said that, the DA* 300 is a gem of a lens, at the pinnacle of craftsmanship and image quality. There is no complaining about it, at all. Don't think twice, if you want to do wildlife with Pentax, just go for it! I, in the meantime, am waiting, hopeful that at least by the end of the year Pentax might announce a 500mm F4 or something thereabouts, failing which I might either go in for the Sigma 500 F4.5, or worse, change religion to Nikon :-(

Hi Aditya,
i am considering picking up a Tele lens for my kit. My options are the DA*200 and DA*300 and also looking at those old screw mount takumars in the 200mm-400mm prime lense range. I will be mainly using it for wildlife and bird photography. Any information and inputs regarding the above would be helpful.
How is your experiene with the DA*300. I am led to believe that it slightly less sharper than the DA*200, but gives a longer reach than the DA*200. Also since it is f4.0 v/s f2.8 for the DA*200 , how does it compare in the actual field performance. Thanks for the valuable inputs.
Warm regards,
Shishir.
