I second Blue, Andi and the rest. I've never seen an ES II but there are many out there who can probably help. Toss it out to the general forum and I bet you get an answer or at least better guidance than I can offer.

I agree with Andi Lo on starting a thread in the Film SLR forum. Have you checked the battery orientation. Always check on the battery itself for markings because some of those darn things look like they are "made" upside down.

I received your message regarding Pentax ES II and its problem. Sorry, I am unfamiliar with the camera/problem. I cant help you at this time.
