The Pentax 55-300 is a definite improvement over the Sigma which I'll have to get around to selling in the not too distant future. I'll be testing AFC at a classic motorbike race meeting in a couple of weeks. One thing I do tend to do is occassionally kill the AF working off the assumption that the camera is not psychic.

How do you find the Pentax DA 55-300 compared to the Sigma 70-300? I've got the Pentax and I'm reasonably happy with it. Used it to shoot my 7y.o. son's first soccer game using AF.C. (I usually do static stuff so AF.C was interesting.) It was a lot of fun, but next time I think I'll use a tripod. Helps to keep a level horizon.
