Thanks sealonsf - it's not a big deal either way , but I really thought the "close encounters" would get in , not sure I have taken a better shot. You're right maybe I stop picking my favorites as they are obvioulsy not their favorites

Well, I submitted three of basically the same scene and one got through, so it's not so sad.

By far my most disappointing IMHO. It took a lot to get this shot of such an exotic insect

Now I know I'm biased and partial to my own images (aren't we all?) but I've been deeply un-impressed with PPG lately. I'd love some feedback on this particular image for sure, so guys have at it!

On the other hand, I must say that I regularly see pictures that seem nothing more than everyday snap shots on PPG, which is sad. There are a great deal of incredible images (along with their fair share of un-worthy shots which mine I guess is a part of ) on this page which PPG should be honored to showcase on their website (again IMHO).

just my worthless two pennies worth

My issues with it would be:

1. It's off-center in a not-very-interesting way. Not your fault, just the way the subject is shaped/oriented.
2. It's overexposed (blown highlights) in several places. (Flash?)
3. Dust spots.

3. Dust spots. never noticed those, good eye.

Composition is the most basic element of photography, IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the shot, but the slight curve of the antennae to the right disturbs the symmetry in a way that takes me out of it.

I thought it was always a gamble submitting this.
In hindsight, it's just a it too busy and yellowish.
JPEG straight out of the camera.
Might tidy it up and make a print out of it.

I find the out of focus area at the top particularly the parts behind the antennae to be distracting, I'd suggest cropping it out.
