Weekly Challenge #103 - "Broken" - Winners!

Lots of great entries this week! A big thank you to all of you who participated.

I thought I'd judge this one a bit different than the other's. I hope that's OK.

Without further delay....let's get to it:

Award for Best Presumed Story to Go Along With the Picture:
NaClH20 (aka Salty)

Dammit Award:
xjjohnno

Whimsy Award:
Daacon

Captain Obvious Award:
AOski

What the Heck is THAT Award:
seacapt

Kick Ass Post Processing Award:
K McCall

Best Perspective Award:
Ovim

Alcohol Abuse Award:
Venturi

Runner Up Award:
Ash

And the winner is.....

ceericks

I chose this one as this challenge's winner for a few reasons.
1.) I like the literal translation of "broken" with the broken tombstone
2.) I like the implied translation of the person being dead, and how this is juxtaposed in the broken stone
3.) Grave sites signify to me the loss of loved ones, now broken families, the breaking of ties to the person who is gone, and the spirit breaking free.
4.) I like how the stones now have a broken line.
5.) It's a great photo!

Congrats to the winner ceericks, and thanks to everyone else for playing. I hope you had as much fun joining in as I did seeing what everyone came up with.

With that....I shall turn it over to ceericks for our next challenge!

Hmmmm...not really. Normally it's judged much like you did in the last challenge (i.e. pick the top three that you liked and give feedback to them and some honourable mentions). I figured I would change it up a bit in how it was presented back to everyone - that is all. Same dinner, different plate.

Well the different plate lightened it up. Thanks for the mention and congrats to Ceericks.
The answer to the what the heck is that question; Seagulls pick up clams , scallops , conchs and yes occasionally sea urchins then fly them up and drop them on hard ground to break them open. THAT was one of the unfortunate gull victims. Or maybe it's a real life Alien vs. Predetor insident.

That's pretty cool and resourceful of them. I've never seen a sea urchin before - they are ugly. I'm just sayin'...

well done ceericks. Very strong shot which fit the theme very well and in multiple ways. I see the broken headstone but also the broken lives lying in their graves. Just very nice story telling in a well executed shot.

Thanks coffee for the judging. I enjoyed the novel approach. Very nice. Congrats to ceericks and all the other winners.
To seacapt:
Didn't know that seagull did that for sea urchins too. But then again there are precious few up here in Long Island Sound. BTW, DO NOT!!! taunt seagulls by taking your Dad's new car and parking it over a just broken clam/mussel. It frustrates them no end and they eventually figure out the perfect revenge...drop a nice heavy clam from about 200 ft on to the roof of the car!

NaCl(try figuring out how to explain that to your massively pissed off father)H2O
