Weekly Challenge #105 Backlighting

Taking a well exposed backlit photograph is difficult. The dynamic range us usually high, you have to at least think about flare, and colors can either get blown out or completely subdued in shadow. I always like good back lit photos, they can have a dramatic flair (pun intended) lacking from the usual front or near front lit shots. So let's see your back lit photos. Note that I am NOT looking for silhouettes. I am looking for some detail and color (or grey range if you choose to submit a B&W shot) to the subject. As a sample here is this:

Contest will close on Saturday August 8th and I will judge and post the winners on Sunday the 9th.

The fine print....

1. Post ONE photo (max 1000x1000).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.

4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.

I'll play! First time for me -- let me know if I screw it up.
This is a freehand macro of a large artglass bowl taken at a festival in Utah. I noticed the light illuminating the pieces and asked the artist if she would mind me photographing them. She said that she usually brushes people off, but since I asked first I could. I think she was distracted with a potential buyer when I pulled out the 70-300. My avatar came from another backlit piece shot within minutes of this one.

It is my first time too.
I took that one last summer after a storm took a big branch of the tree. I took my 55-200 and took a few pictures of the sunset going through those leaves. I like the shadow of the leaves on each other and to be able to see the veins.
I am just posting this one this I can post only one but I have a few more.

Here is my contirbution. This was a sculpture at the University of Minneapolis Landscape Arboretum. I had just spent most of the day taking shots of flora and other sculptures only to find that I had shot everything up until this point at ISO 1600!? So setting the ISO back to auto i took a series of shots of this sculpture which were my last shots of the day. This particular angle had the sun just above and behind one of the reflective pieces:

Here is the rest of the series:

A fairly shallow DOF on this one, macro using outside light through some dish washing liquid I'd aerated by shaking it up.

I'm going through my stuff....and I think they are ALL back lit. And for my indoor stuff...I throw a wireless light behind it to get some light back there.

Maybe I'm one of those crazy types....

@ MJB DIGITAL: Haha, you and me both! I read this challenge topic and asked my boyfriend what I should submit. He just stared at me and said, "ALL of your stuff falls into that category."

So I guess I'd better start wading through it to find one to post
