Welcome to PP Challenge #10. The image for this weeks challenge is a child playing. I was disappointed that this shot came out underexposed. Hopefully you guys can improve the look of this shot or create an image that is more interesting. I'm not looking for anything in particular, so surprise me with your creativity.

I wasn't quite sure what we had. I brought it into Lightroom to recover as much as I could. I used a couple of presets I have created to develop RAW shots. Once I had the picture, I cropped it to emphasize the little guy, his concentration, and his closed eyes.
I was pretty happy with the results, but the more I looked at the photo, the more I wanted it to be timeless in an old fashioned way. I decided to go with a weathered Black & White look. I adjusted curves and contrast in Paint.net and then converted it to grayscale to get the look I was after.
Tried something a bit different on this one. Had a pic I took of an old disused school so though I would combine the two to create a mysterious eerie feeling.
I just snagged the small file from the OP. Cropped to put focus on the negative space and the stick, converted to B&W in Elements.
I thought it might add to the narrative by reducing the impact of the boy in the frame. We know he's a boy but what is he doing?
Crop + B&W conversion + some tone adjustment in LR. Lots of (sloppy) dodge & burn + slight cool tint in PS. This photo started low key. I kept it there, trying to work with the image instead of against it like i have on so many prior PP challenge pics.

I was a little lazy so I tried Smart Photo Fix to start with. Then I cropped to a 5x7 vertical ratio. Applied a couple of gradients to darken the left side (one dark on the left and light on the right and the other was dark at the bottom left corner and light at the upper right corner). Resized and sharpened.
I started with the RAW and edited using Lightroom. I used a slightly warmer white balance, bumped up the exposure and brightness, used a LOT of recovery and fill light, then dodged and burned and added some split toning and vignetting.
Some very interesting work so far Frank! Gonna be a tough decision. I'm really busy with FotoWeekDC so won't be submitting a treatment, but it is a wonderful photo with a lot of potential.
