Tuesday Assignment #3: Make 'mundane' interesting

Welcome to the third Tuesday Assignment! Each week we'll have a new assignment intended to help your photography by opening up new ideas for shooting.

How does it work?

Each week will have a new theme. The theme might be specific, generic or anywhere in between. Your task is to create a shot that embodies the theme. Your interpretation is all that matters!

This is not a competition and there are no rules. Post your photos within this thread.

This week's theme: Make 'mundane' interesting

As photographers progress in their abilities we seek out the interesting and tune out the 'noise'. Unfortunately many photographers will miss a great photo opportunity only because it is mundane or boring. Your task this week is to find something that you may have skipped in the past and make it interesting.

This example is a photo I created of a house I saw while walking down a street not far from where I live. This composition could have easily been overlooked because who wants photographs of a side of a house? (No, that's not barrel distortion, that's a saggy roof!)

Post any questions or comments in this thread -- as well as your interpretations of the theme.

Above all, have fun!

I hope I can make my mundane life more interesting as well.

This was taken by playing around with lighting a bit

That's cool Chris - good vision.
And James - that's scary, I keep almost seeing a frowning face in that ornament!

Hi Arpe, I could not see a frowning face but I can sort of picture 2 eyes on the butterfly wings ...

Sorry to frighten you around this time at night!

Nice theme Jared. Had to think a bit on this one.
Simple fence around a playground on the shore, the fence top is fashioned into a series of sine waves, probably to reflect the waves of the water. But it's pretty boring unless you get up close and personal. DS with the Pentax SMC 50mm F1.2 1/500, ISO 200 aperture unknown.

And the butterfly itself is vaguely reminiscent of pac man!

A rather mudane line of concrete pillars on a concrete floor.
Wait for the right angle of the sun and 'voila'.

Wow. I reckon these are all pretty good, seeing as they are of mundane objects.
