Yes, there is a string missing. Is a relatively old fiddle, hasnt been out of the case for about 25 years. You weren't supposed to notice that. BTW you didnt mention that the bow is missing the hair as well. Fix for one photo? I think not.

To my untrained musical eye, user440 and atupdate are almost showing the same guitar chord.
