There are many advantages to living in Snow country when the right subject comes along. But then, I had to sit out the Mountain contest.

I'm enjoying the contests! A few times I even got a few votes. Like the Food contest when I submitted a Dairy Cow titled, "Ice Cream, Early Stages of Production." My photos lack any artistic flair, but when I submitted a joke it captured some attention. I had hopes for the Wildlife contest until I saw the excellent competition.

Well I'll have fun seeing what folks come up with. I'll have to pass on this one too. There isn't any snow around me for hundreds of miles. Maybe that is why I love snow photos so much?

think outside the box!!!

Ok.. no more whining about the topic... yeah yeah I know some of you dont have Real snow... but .... you do have some of the following:

1. Ice that can be shaved or chunked... What do you think a snowcone is???????

2. You can buy or get fake snow....

3. You can buy or get that snow in a can.. I think it is called Flocking...???

4. Cottom works well for a fluffy snow.....

see now you have atleast 4 reasons why you do have snow even if it is not freezing at your house....

Sometimes the sillies ideas turn out to be GREAT things!!!!

There is also snow at indoor ice rinks, when they clean the ice the Zamboni (ice resurfacing machine) dumps snow when it's done.

LaRee,

Looks like we'll have an 'embarrassment of riches' here. We're under a severe winter storm warning with predictions of 2 to 3 feet of snow and winds to 60 mph. Maybe I can stick the camera out the front door during lulls in the action.

This is what it can look like if you get caught outside around here during these storms - not a good idea ...

It's really much easier than all that. Just take a 5sec shot at 1600 with the lens cap on and pp to b&w!

May I suggest Sand or Snow. Exposure-wise, sand will provide the same exposure difficulties as snow and, it is available to those who don't have snow.

Just a thought.
