Once again, I do apologize for the 5-day delay, but the poll is now up and running!

Contrary to popular beleif, the anonymity-status of the entries has not been changed for this contest. Just like in the months before, members are unable to view others' photos while submissions are still being accepted, but when voting time comes around, I move all the submissions to this forum so that users may comment on the threads and view the photos. This should not create voting bias because usernames are not specifically mentioned in this post. Furthermore, this is required so that all users can actually see others' attachments (if you cannot view the thread, you can also not view any embedded attachements through the forum permission system).

There are plenty of close-ups here but not many I consider macro therefore I voted for only one. It shows that many people are still unclear about the true meaning of macro and micro. Furthermore, you would think that flowers are the only object which have any macro-photographic value.

Good luck to all entrants close-up or macro, you have submitted some beautiful specimens.

I guess what myself and others were commenting on was the fact that each of the 42 threads (complete with user names) comprising the entries for this months contest were viewable by all members for the last 3 days. I don't think it will compromise the contest much as each thread showed only about 40 views. And it is a friendly competition anyway.

Good luck to everyone! There are some excellent entries this month.

There were rules stating that the pcture should be of a flower and between 1:3 and, well, unlimited magnification. I think my shot was between 1:1 and 1:2 but, remember, unless you know how big the flower in question actually was, you cant really tell. A 1:1 shot of a very tiny flower can look like just a normal closeup.

Hmmmm...

Some beautiful photos here. But JC made a valid point. Several non-macros, and that one flower looks sorta owlish.

That was my thought as well.

But, I will cast three votes.

Yeh, I read JC's comment and wondered what he meant. While quite a few are not macros (depth of field is a dead giveaway), I count at least eight that could not be less that 1:3 magnification based on the subject matter alone.

My main frustration is that the contest was limited to flowers. I have several dramatic, high magnification shots of various non-flower plant parts that I would have LOVED to enter .

This is interesting, I average picking 50% of the leaders but this time I'm 0 for 3. Oh well, I'll try and figure out what it is that I missed.

I know mine's 1:1 fer sure ... (edit: not that that's helping me in the voting lol!)
Dunno, I guess a decent number are 1:3 or under @ minimum focus, by guesstimate about 1/2...
I thought I had my pics selected from the forum threads, but not so sure now when seen serially like this.

Sadly, there are 18 of Ron White's favorite book subjects who have voted for #22

I agree, the only requirement stated was <= 3:1 to allow for those of us who don't own a macro lens... yet. I don't see how anyone can say a photo violates the rules without knowing the object size. The only flowers left in our yard were very small.

I'll repeat a question I asked when I submitted my entry and no one replied. I asked and planned to withdraw my photo if told it didn't qualify.

Without giving away which photo is mine, here is how I think I verified macro ratio. Using the kit lens with a #2 closeup filter (also hers) I took a photo of the small subject at 55mm FL around 4 inches away. I also took a shot of a metric scale at the same focus. The width of the uncropped scale was 65mm, divided by the 24mm sensor I get a macro ratio of 2.7:1. Does my photo qualify for the contest?
