AF360FGZ Slave Sensitivity?

How sensitive is the AF360FGZ slave? Can it "see through" daylight?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but I frequently use a hotshoe mounted 540 as the master and multiple 360 units as wireless slaves in full sunlight without any problem.

Great, that's wonderful to know. I need to know whether I need to get a wein (super-sensitive) slave as well. Hopefully the built-in slave is sensitive enough!

What is the range you use? 5 ft? 10 ft? 50 ft? With the 540 as master, how far away can you put the 360 in broad daylight, and still have it trigger?

Thanks so much, Jun Park!

I just did a few tests.

With a 540 master and (2) 360 slave units in full sun:
- 360s facing 540 master (turned 0 degrees): reliable triggering up to 14 feet, intermittent triggering to approx. 18 feet
- 360s turned 30ish degrees: reliable to about 12 feet
- 360s turned 45ish degrees: reliable to about 10 feet
- 360s turned 60ish degrees: reliable to about 6 feet

For reference, I also tried the tests inside my house. The longest line-of-sight distance available inside my house is 35 feet and the 360s triggered consistently even when turned 60ish degrees from the master flash units, though this may have been helped by the fact that I have mostly white painted walls, giving the signal a "bounce" effect.

Also, I do a number of events including weddings and banquets and I've never had a problem with the 360s in wireless slave mode. And yes, I almost always use the 540s as masters and 360s as slaves because I have the external battery pack for the 540s (and get this, using fresh NiMH AAs and NiMH Cs, the flash will recycle from a full pop in less than 2 seconds! I don't mind burning out the flash prematurely to get faster recycle times and I guess anyone who's done events would understand this!)

I hope this helps.
