Here's my situation.

I want to use my metz on a tripod with umbrella and i dont want the pre flash to go off.

So what do i need to buy ?

I am thinking a flash adaptor for tripod with a pc sync socket so to use the sync socket on the k20d ?? would this work ??

What cable do i use to connect hte camera and flash.

You need to visit FlashZebra.com ...for cables and just in general.

Also, there's a Wein optical slave that ignores redeye preflash. Google Wein.

You shoule visit Strobist... that group's central obsession is off-camera use of small flashes like Vivitar and your Metz.
