Takumar-A 2x Teleconverter info

Hi all,

Long term lurker first time poster (I think).

Im looking for some help/advice on a Takumar-A 2x TeleConverter I have in my hands.

Does anyone know if these things are AF? The reason why I ask is, it has all the small round looking dimple connections that uses AF, but AF does not seem to work.

Some of these dimples dont stick out far enough to make a connection, so I was thinking it might need a clean and AF might work.

If anyone knows anything about them, I would be appreciative if you would share.

Cheers
John

If the converter has the screw drive connector then it should work with AF lenses. The dimples you refer to are the electrical connectors, AF does not rely on them.

There is one T/C that pentax made that provided AF capability with manual lenses, but it is not your one.

For more detail have a look here Pentax Teleconverters

Thanks pschlute,

You are right when you ask about the screw drive. It does not have one. I dont know why I didnt think of that myself.

So what are the connectors for?

John

They enable the camera to "know" what lens you are using. This is how focal length is recorded on the the exif data, and how the camera knows what shake-reduction setting to apply. It also allows the cameras "wheel" controls (or Program modes) to change the aperture on the lens.

The point of having them on a T/C is to retain that functionality.
