New Toy
I never ever thought I'd find one of these, but I came accross one while casually browsing eBay.
This Pentax Monocular Converter turns any K-mount lens into a telescope, multiplying its effective focal length by a factor of 5. In other words, my 400-600mm mirror lens turns into a 2000-3000mm telescope! Plus, the view through the converter is much clearer than that through the eyepiece of a standard telescope  I guess it'll be fun to bring long on long trips

oops, also, what's the diameter of the lens closet to your eye?
also, what's the effective magnification?

The diameter is roughly 1 cm, and the effective magnification is 5x, as I mentioned above. I haven't tried it with the 500mm because of the weight, but it's feairly easy to manage at 400mm with the mirror lens. Things get hard to locate at 600mm, but the picture remains clear. This adapter also works well with teleconverters

This sounds like a clever device. I saw it in stan's website but I did not know you can still get it on ebay these days ...

would this converter with a big lens let enough light in to take photos, or is it just for your eyes only?

I don't see how I could mount it on the camera, lol, but there's more than enough light for the eyes, even at 6000mm
