D-BG2 Grip question

I received the grip today. I charged the battery, installed the grip and NO POWER from the grip. I can power on from the body, but not the grip. The icons show both batteries are full (in fact I switched them to make sure); I can select which one I want to use first..but no power. What can I be doing wrong?

You want to turn the camera ON from the grip? Only the body switch controls the camera; the grip switch controls the shutter and aperture buttons, the AE lock and the e-wheels ON the grip. If you have large hands, you might turn the grip OFF to prevent an accidental exposure (that sound dirty but it might be fun). You may also need to wiggle the grip's e-wheels a bit to put them -in a detent- so that the body e-wheels function smoothly.

Thanks, I didn't realize how the two power sources related in funtion. The manual is mute on this. I assume the grip battery takes over when the body battery drains AND the grip is switched to ON?

You can tell the camera how to use the batteries in the 'setup' menu under the 'select battery' option.

The camera will then use the batteries in the sequence you have set regardless of whether the grip is switched on. The off/on switch on the grip just enables the grip buttons and wheels.

grip has to be on the on position for the batteries to be used on the grip
otherwise, no power if there is no battery on the body

Not on mine...

I have just tried it with only a battery in the grip (no battery in the body) and the camera works if the body switch is on and the grip switch is off.

It works the same way with my *istD also.

made a mistake, tried it again yesterday, thing was I was not set on auto, since i wanted at the time for the grip battery to be used first

and when this happened first, both batteries died, almost one after the other.

anyway, i tried it last night again, and yeah, you dont need grip power to be on.

sorry my mistake
