The thing that worries me about the Sigma ringflash (compared to the new Pentax and the upcoming Metz one) is Sigmas track record with incompatibility from one Pentax firmware revision to another - never mind from camera model to camera. At least the Metz is USB updatable and the Pentax is both P-TTL and TTL compatible.
Also, with it's D-FA adapter, the AF160FC should be more appealing to those that have the current Pentax Macro lenses.

Did Metz bring out a Ringflash as well?

That Metz looks really really slick - but I am terrified of what the sticker price will be.

I have a slightly off-topic question. Has anyone tried shooting a normal subject with a macro flash?

Are you talking at 10 ft with a 105mm? I have with older systems with a 50mm on film.

I've not done it myself (don't have one yet
) but Dave Hobby did a write up on his Strobist blog a month or two ago where the photog used a ring flash in concert with other lighting and produced some pretty kickin shots.
Found the blog entry...

BH is taking pre-orders for the Sigma ring flash.
Sigma | EM-140 DG RING PTTL FLASH f/PENTAX AF | F309109 | B&H
It will be interesting to see where the price of the new Pentax ring flash falls in comparison.

The Metz looks like the way to go.
Wireless and updateable would be worth paying more for.
