There are several recent threads regarding Domke bags. If you like you can try the 'search' feature and sift through them. I have had an F3X for a few years now and am satisfied with it's performance. They are thin on bottom protection but a flap of foam or bubble wrap seems to help against bumps. People seem to either love them or hate them. I like the fact that it has no zippers, holds my K10D with 4 lenses and a flash and a lot of smaller bits and doesn't scream 'expensive camera hidden within!'. The 'Gripper' strap really does stay put on your shoulder, too. There is a recent thread in the forum where the OP had a problem with a broken plastic part and was more than pleased with Domke customer service.

Sorry I don't have a Domke, my wife has one (don't know what model) and she is very happy with it but that could be because it holds her camera and a couple of lenses and the contents of her handbag when we are travelling.
I know that Domke have been around for some time and are well liked by old school photographers.
I also know we desperately need a camera bag database in a hurry. Once someone has bought their camera they soon realise they need something to carry it around in.
I think buying bags and tripods can be the most confusing items to buy.

Been using the F6 for many years. Love its size but hate its narrow strap. When fully loaded, a 2" shoulder strap (1.5" default) would be more comfortable. Another issue is that it is a rather short bag which can swallow a FA*200/2.8 w/o hood, nothing taller (you can actually but then things will rub & scratch each other).

You might find this link useful.

Walchan, can you tell me the external length of the f6
domke website has it at 11.5 inches where as bh photo has it at 16 inches

For the F-6, the padded insert height is 6", the bag itself is 7". The length of the bag is 11" to be exact (inner or outer).

i ordered the F 3X last night, i hope this is what i have been searching for as this is my fourth bag in less than a year.
my last bag was the lowepro slingshot 100, i thought this was it, great for holding my stuff, found the strap to be a pain in the a__ ! and for some reason very difficult to get my camera out with the 50-135 attached.
before that was the lowepro stealth reporter, great strong bag, all the quality features you could want in a bag, then i loaded it up with my stuff, tried it on , looked in the mirror , and saw i had a suitcase on my side strapped to my shoulder.
before that , a lowepro rezo 160, great small bag , completely lined inside with tricot material, will keep for those days when just camera alone is required, which may turn out to be at least once every 5 years.
so i have always tried lowepro, what the hell, let give domke a try

Just an idea...

I was looking at a Domke style bag, and I foudn a solution that's much less expensive and works well for me. It's your decision, but here goes.

I have a good "messenger bag" that I used for a while at the university. The standard (about 15 inches long, 10-12 inches deep, 4-7 inches thick). I found a 15$ insert on eBay that's made to fit exactly in such bags. It's well padded, has movable dividers, can hold my K20D with Sigma 17-70, a flash, a telephoto lens (large), two small primes, and a battery. The messenger bag's pockets allow me to carry spare memory, a cleaning wloth, a LensPEN, and some documentation if I want it. I also got a wallet-type filter holder that I carry, unfolded, in a larger messenger bag pocket.

Total cost :

Bag : 30$ (can be had for less, or free if you have a messenger bag already)
Insert : 15$
Filter holder : 8$

Plus it doesn't scream "camera"! I like this option better than a regular Domke for many reasons : much, much less expensive (even eBay imitations are not cheap), more discreet, and I like a thinner and longer design.

I could post pictures if you care.

YMMV, but this can be a viable solution. Now I'm looking for a simple insert to protect my camera when I place it in my backpack. I already have cases for my lenses, so they will be well protected in the backpack, only the camera is unprotected.

I LOOKED AT THE MESSENGER TYPE BAGS FOR A GOOD WHILE
in total i presently own 6 lowepro bags with many inserts, that i could have altered in the messenger bag in order to get full protection of my gear. i looked at the messenger style , as that was the only one that gave a slim profile, and not have this hugemongos thing sticking out your side like a sore thumb.
but almost all of the messenger styles had a major "FLAW"
if you look at the top of the bag, on the ends, where the flap comes over, you see a "GAP"
that spells dust and rain

Depending on the bag, this can be true, but not for my particular bag, the opening is smaller than the flap, and I've had no problems so far.
