Closeup Filters/Lenses?

Does anyone have experience using closeup lenses? I wanted to pick up a set, but then I started reading about possible flaws in the glass and how it doesn't make sense to screw it on over a 200-300 (or more) dollar lens. Do you have to buy really high end kits and avoid the 30 dollar ones to get a good close-up image?

picked up a set of close up filters, not at all expensive. it's fun to have around, but it's not a real replacement to anything.

Hi,

I picked up a set of Tiffen +1, +2, +4 closeup filters for my Canon S1 a while ago and started using them on the K100D DA lenses I have since they are 52mm thread size. I think they work fine and I like the results but I'm not a pro. The DOF is greatly reduced so focusing is tricky but it adds a whole new dimension to the hobby.
