Adding TC-DC52B 1.6X to a DA lens

Hi,

I have a Canon 52mm 1.6X tele converter that screws on the end of an adapter for a Canon S1-IS I have. I played around with using it on the end of my Pentax DA 18-55 and 50-200 lenses and it appears to work fine.

Is there any issue with adding weight to the end of the lens? It's only 5.2oz (148g) but I do not want to damage the focus mechanism.

Also, Is a tele converter that sits between the body and lens better than the one I am using on the end of a lens?

Thanks,

yes the TC is better as long as it's a good one..

doubt very seriously that the extra weight will do harm. try putting a A*300 on the camera and then you should start worrying.

Becareful if you use it on your DA. Its extra weight on your AF motors. I suggest you use AF only with the teleconvertor.

I have a TCon17 and when I use it on my telephotos like my 135mm, I can feel extra friction in the focus ring.

One question though. How much light do you lose when you use a screw on teleconvertor?

You know you got a pretty serious case of LBA when you end up buying the same lens twice...

I had one of those and tried it but I gave up as it was a bit of extra weight and I remember it vignetting badly - is that the case? Also it was soft on the canon so i didn't think it was worth it overall.

My son has it now for use on the A70.

Hi,

I do lose a bit of light, probably about a stop with it. The vignetting was not bad from what I could tell but the focus is a hare softer without a doubt.

I guess my biggest concern was the added stress on the lens focusing mechanism. I do not use it a lot due to the softer focus, just if I'm desperate for a longer reach.

Thanks for input FotoPete and Arjay Bee!
