Sigma EF-530 DG ST vs Super

Morning All,

Just purchased a used flash for $139 USD through eBay. The item was listed as a Sigma EF-530 DG Super, but upon opening the shipping package I discovered that it was a Sigma EF-530 DG ST. I've looked at listings for the ST model and $139 is almost the price for a brand new unit. The item was in pretty much new condition, all the paper work was included and the components were still in plastic bags.

The question I pose to you all is do I go through the hassle of returning the item, or just soldier on with what I received? And if I do, what am I losing by not going for the Super? I would be using the flash on a K-x, mainly for family events and weekend sight seeing.

I am not familiar with Sigma flashes so I don't know if the one that you received will work with the K-X, but if it will work, you might want to negotiate some of your money back instead of returning it for a refund. Figure out what a fair price would be for the one you received and ask for the difference. The seller should want to work with you instead of having to deal with a return and possibly a negative feedback because the item was not as advertised.

There are several differences between the 2 units. The Super can function as an optical slave, do wireless PTTL and has manual settings for the full range of 1/1 to 1/16.

The ST does not function as an optical slave and only has 2 manual settings, full and 1/16.

More infomation can be found here: Sigma - Pentax P-TTL Flash Comparison

I bought my Sigma 500 Super at Photo4less.com and they have the 530 Sigma listed for $135 + SH (~$9).

I would return or ask for some money back.

Hopefully it was just a seller that's ignorant about his merchandise but I doubt it.
Did you pay thru Paypal? Maybe you can get a partial payback if you want to keep it.

Thanks for all the advice! Messaged the seller and asked if he could do a partial refund to make the it a more reasonable deal. Wish me luck!

I hope he does take your word for it that it s the ST and not the super as they would usually have you send in the item for for them to verify that it was indeed a mistake of theirs.
