The Professional Look

Which accessories can give a K200D the professional look? I have a K200D+ 18-55 mm and 55- 300 mm. What else?

Why do you want to "look" professional?

Best way's to print of some of your photos, show them to people.

Well, I sometimes notice people with their Canons and Nikons with their huge lenses. They seem to have a more professional look. In fact I was doing some photography at the oktoberfest here in munich and all the professional photographers had either a canon or Nikon. Up till now I have seen only two people with a pentax. One here in munich and one when I was in the Louver in Paris. Pentaxians are an endangered species. Or are they?

You can tell from these two photos, ... you'll need a baseball cap.

To look professional you need an entourage.

Well, it's more like Pentax people are the upstarts. There's of course the question of 'Looking professional to whom,' ...with people who know photography it has more to do with body language and appearing to know what you're doing... with managing potential subjects it's mostly just about confidence and actually managing the people... most 'pros' are going to be confident they've chosen the right tool for the job and know it intimately, and that just shows.

People who are completely clueless can end up with the big fat lenses and bodies these days, you can tell them by the air of fussy unfamiliarity with their devices. I'm always paying attention to people's reactions, since that's kind of the photography I do. Different things can bring different impressions, it's true, but when I'm working with my little Lumix (which is in fact a sharp-looking little guy, admittedly) people tend to assume he's more special of gear than something you could pick up at Best Buy for a couple of hundred just cause someone like me is using one.

(laughing to Poco. And people think *I* carry heavy for my size. )

if you buy a 645 you will have a pro cam.

or you can use a battery grip, your biggest lens and the clothes like the two pictures

or you can do the thing that would make my (and many others) eyes looked at you.
MOUNT A DA 40MM AND A BATTERY GRIP.

with this i think many people will look at you and be fasinated of your cam.
(many canikons thought my -M40 mm was pretty cool with k200d and battery grip!!)

One day this summer, I was walking early morning with my K10D and DA70 on making some street shooting Paris. Then I met this guy my a hudge long tele on his DSLR. I felt it as completely stupid.

At that time there was nobody in the streets for candid shot. And with my 70, I was having a very hard time framing the pictures the way I wanted (anyway the light wasn't great) and I wished for a much wider lens. So apart for trying to shoot the gargoyles on Notre Dame (and he was far from anything like that), there was no real use for his lens apart showing off.

One of the reason I choose over Pentax, was the line up of high quality "Pancake" lenses (DA21, DA40, DA70) that were praised by professional journalists as making light and discretes combos with the K10D.

There are nearly as much shooting styles as they are professionals, but when it comes to street shooting (one of the main context when gathering photographer) Long lenses like "Bigma" and other "Sigzilla" are more outdoor shooting, usually when there are notbody around. I've read countless posts or articles of prefessionals lurking for a "real" professional comptact camera (big snesor in a small body)

If you want to look professional, get the setup that fit your shooting session.
- Put a zoom when you wont be able to change lenses, or move freely,
- Put a prime when you can move around, swap lenses, or when you need a larger aperture,
- Put long hudge telelens or long prime when ou really need to look like a paparazzo.

The same goes for flash, grip, tripod or anything else.

Regards,
Guillaume

Where can I get the cap????

Well... type 'camera armour' into google. Oh... they've only got them for k10/20d.
I'd say there are two ways to go: either buy k20d with grip, throw on a camera amour and 60-250 lense...
or wait for the new WHITE dual kit Pentax k-m (k2000) and get a put sticker on it .

But seriously... where can I get the cap???

The Pentax online store has the cap, and I think I've seen them on Ebay. (Though I don't know if those are the genuine article, I was looking for rear lens caps when I came across them in a search and wasn't really paying attention. )

Which caps, I dunno, might look cute on me, but as happy as I'd be to support the brand a little, I've never considered it a great idea to advertise you're carrying cameras you may think a lot of like that. Though, as an old Canon FD shooter, that's partly been cause thieves are pretty routinely taught to look for the Canon and Nikon names, and can't tell the difference between my old film gear and the latest thousands-of-dollars-of-fenceable digital.

I'm actually finding myself a little self-conscious about my K20d, looking all brand-new and everything. I'm thinking about looking for an older-looking strap.

@ poco: Hilarious!! I mean the first guy has more than four bodies! What does one do with so many of them??

@ séamuis: Which lens is that?

Well, after reading everything I think that a grip and plus a flash may do the job. But I have read some bad reviews about the AF540. Mostly about its body and stuff. But not many have mentioned anything good about its performance.
