One day this summer, I was walking early morning with my K10D and DA70 on making some street shooting Paris. Then I met this guy my a hudge long tele on his
DSLR. I felt it as completely stupid.
At that time there was nobody in the streets for candid shot. And with my 70, I was having a very hard time framing the pictures the way I wanted (anyway the light wasn't great) and I wished for a much wider lens. So apart for trying to shoot the gargoyles on Notre Dame (and he was far from anything like that), there was no real use for his lens apart showing off.
One of the reason I choose over Pentax, was the line up of high quality "Pancake" lenses (DA21, DA40, DA70) that were praised by professional journalists as making light and discretes combos with the K10D.
There are nearly as much shooting styles as they are professionals, but when it comes to street shooting (one of the main context when gathering photographer) Long lenses like "Bigma" and other "Sigzilla" are more outdoor shooting, usually when there are notbody around. I've read countless posts or articles of prefessionals lurking for a "real" professional comptact camera (big snesor in a small body)
If you want to look professional, get the setup that fit your shooting session.
- Put a zoom when you wont be able to change lenses, or move freely,
- Put a prime when you can move around, swap lenses, or when you need a larger aperture,
- Put long hudge telelens or long prime when ou really need to look like a paparazzo.
The same goes for flash, grip, tripod or anything else.

Guillaume
