K-5, IQ Analysis - A Tale of two samples

Here we have two samples(A & B),
I'd like you all to look them over really good and give your toughest opinion on the differences between them.
What you like, don't like, etc etc.

These images will be part of a tutorial I've been working on, so the more critical you are, the more helpful this will be.

EXHIBIT A:

EXHIBIT B:

EXHIBIT A: Full size download

EXHIBIT B: Full size download

Thanks for playing

... the end

The 2nd photo has lost some fine detail , some contrast, and the colour looks a bit washed out compared to the first.

My guess is the 1st photo is ISO 100 (?) and the 2nd is at much higher ISO (25,600 ?) after NR.
Still very impressive though. I can still see the surface texture of the paper label on the bottle.

Кадър А е по-добър,с по-хубав цвят,рязкост и детайл.
Поздрав!
Аз имам подозрения.......

Okay so far we have:

  • Detail loss
  • Contrast
  • Colors off

I don't like the fact that there's only $1250 worth of chips in the picture... I needed to win another $350 to cover the cost of the K5

Second photo has a lot more shadow noise (of the chroma variety).

Agree with the prior comments, but then i peeked also. That is some excellent manipulation to achieve such quality.

John, you are the master in this arena. I'd like to see the original of the second image (prior to manipulation) after comments have finished

my guess is that both are high iso images that have been PP'd in different ways. If so, i like the artifacts in the black areas of Exhibit B better (or are these JPG compression artifacts?). More detail in the in-focus area of the carpet of exhibit A. The red in the chips look oversaturated in Exhibit A. I like the artifacts on the out-of-focus edges of the label better in exhibit A.

Any reason why there is very little green and blue subject matter in the composition?

There is also a weird blue dot in the dark area of the bottle above the label on A.

Hope this helps!

I would rather spend the money on full frame, and just take pictures, instead of spending countless hours manipulating images so people are impressed. I want them to look good straight out of the camera.
