Here is the background, not only I have a serious LBA (with over 450 lenses which I'm currently going through and trying to scale down to 200 max.) issue I think I'm starting to get into buying DLSR bodies as well.

Right now I have K100D, K200D, K10D and K20D. From Canon side, I also have an 30D to fit lenses that the Pentax bodies can't handle well such as Nikkors, Zeiss C/Y, Olympus, etc.

So, the question is "What is your highest count of DSLR you ever own at any given time? All brands included"

So I'll start first with 5

Usually I buy new DSLR and then sell the old one. So, there were short periods during upgrades when I had two DSLRs

I don't see the point in the average user owning multiple DSLRs. In the film days, it was helpful to have several cameras so that you could have one loaded with slow film...one with fast film...one with B&W...etc... But these days, there's a lot less need for mulitple cameras.

I don't see the point in the average user owning multiple DSLRs. In the film days, it was helpful to have several cameras so that you could have one loaded with slow film...one with fast film...one with B&W...etc... But these days, there's a lot less need for mulitple cameras.

I sometimes use 2 to have 2 different lenses. This is for situations I don't want to swap lenses due to either time constraints or conditions. I have a 3rd dSLR, *istD that I use for special things like Taks and use it more with manual lenses.

For example, I will be out on a spring fed river tomorrow conducting research. I will have 2 bodies, one with a DA* 300 and another with a DA 18-55 WR in a pelican case. The humidity and temp will both be very high. In certain situations when I go out there I will sub one of the lenses with the D FA 100 WR although I may change my mind for a portrait shot of a new student.

Edit: Another scenario is to have a backup. I spent 3 weeks in a very rule part of Africa and the battery went dead in the middle of a situation and a ditched the K20d and went with the *istD.

I don't know about others but for a prime shooter like myself, I like to travel with at least two bodies so I don't have to swap lenses. Hence, having at least two bodies is necessary. Also, since I shoot a lot with MF lenses, there is also two bodies dedicated to MF lenses, one for K mounts lenses and one for M42 lenses.

So right now my setup is as follows:

1) K100D: fully dedicated to MF lenses with M42 mounts
2) K10D: fully dedicated to MF lenses with K mounts
3) K200D: back up body for AF lenses
4) K20D: main body for AF lenses
5) Canon 30D: to try all other lenses that Pentax can't handle

In sum, I mainly buy my bodies used so the total paid for all 5 bodies was less than $1,200 which is less the price commanded for a K-5 new

To be frank, I'm surprised that the majority has 3 bodies. I would have thought 2.

I bought my K200d may 30, 2008 and the k20d 4 months later, both new. I have less in them both plus the *istD which I bought used than the current price of the K-5. I am mainly a prime shooter also. The only AF zoom I have is the one mentioned above.

I kind of suspected that. We have a lot of prime shooters around as well as folks that have been around a while.

I totally understand that. I started to include this exception in my post, but left it out in order to keep things brief. 2...maybe 3 cameras...okay. But 6?

I have two K-5's. Before I always sold my dslr just before the new one arrived, so never before more then one.
