Greetings! I couldn't agree with Chris more! (Thanks for making a great point!) Actually, I was in that same boat last year, when I was researching a DSLR system. I agree that the D7000 and K-5 are both excellent cameras, with superb functionality, lenses, and image quality. However, what I think is most "different" about these two cameras (to say nothing of the systems), is the ergonomics...To my mind, the Pentax K-5 simply wins on build quality, size, and weather-sealing, not to mention dynamic range. That said, of course Nikon has the much bigger and broader system, but in reality, the Pentax system is more than enough for 99% of photographers. As for optics, I've been blown away by the image quality and sharpness of various Pentax optics, such as the DA* 55, DA 70 Limited, and FA 43 Limited. Even the DA 16-45 zoom is quite sharp for a zoom lens! Please see my link below for some sample jpegs. Keep in mind that the RAW high-res files are even better! Enjoy whichever system you choose!
