I do not know, but the one from D7000 look different and better to my eyes, colors, shadows, focus. Why? Is it because of post-processing? Is it filters? Is it ...

The D7000 Tattooed shot could have been shot with the K-5 also with the same lens and settings but it is right on the money and one heck of a street shot. I like some of the comments like this one :

You should've gotten it. I wish I got mine back in 2009, instead I got it in 2010, when the K-r just came out. So far I have no SR issues - can still do well-to-do handheld shots around 1/20s with it. Had more issues with AF than SR... (having no AF confirm in the viewfinder is ok, but the AF assist beam would've been real nice if the K-x had it). Won't exchange my K-x even for a Canon 40D.

as for the K-5 vs. D7000... can't say much in IQ, they're really both close. D7k AF is fast, but it's not like going to shoot 100% accurate AF. I just like Pentax's lenses, both in price and performance, so I went Pentax. If I had the cash, I'd get a K-5 like, right now.

A K5 will do you well, but you would need to start saving for a good lens or two as well (Tamron 17-50 f2.8 is quite nice). So much of what makes photography though is the photographer. Knowing how to use your equipment. Post processing. Composition. All are things that take time to learn.

I usually recommend that SLR beginners shoot with P (program) mode to begin with. Pentax is nice in that respect because their program mode is hyperprogram -- allowing you to change to Av and Tv modes on the fly.

Greetings! I couldn't agree with Chris more! (Thanks for making a great point!) Actually, I was in that same boat last year, when I was researching a DSLR system. I agree that the D7000 and K-5 are both excellent cameras, with superb functionality, lenses, and image quality. However, what I think is most "different" about these two cameras (to say nothing of the systems), is the ergonomics...To my mind, the Pentax K-5 simply wins on build quality, size, and weather-sealing, not to mention dynamic range. That said, of course Nikon has the much bigger and broader system, but in reality, the Pentax system is more than enough for 99% of photographers. As for optics, I've been blown away by the image quality and sharpness of various Pentax optics, such as the DA* 55, DA 70 Limited, and FA 43 Limited. Even the DA 16-45 zoom is quite sharp for a zoom lens! Please see my link below for some sample jpegs. Keep in mind that the RAW high-res files are even better! Enjoy whichever system you choose!

I feel like the bokeh on that shot is on the harsh side. I guess it's that I am used to the DA *55, but at f4, it would give a much smoother background (the 55 gets pretty busy when it's wider open than f2).

This was taken with my K-5, with the DA* 300mm lens wide open, hand held, with available light. JPEG in camera. No PP. I reckon the autofocus is OK.
