K20D+DA*50-135 focus ring problem.

Less than a month into my camera/lens ownership, my camera developed an odd problem(intermittent). Here's what happens:

1) With shutter button half pressed, focusing motor rotates focusing barrel all the way to the left(closeup) and refuses to refocus properly.
2) If I release the shutter button and try to rotate focusing barrel by hand, it won't budge.
3) switching to MF on the lens does not help any
4) switching camera off and on does not help either.
5) moving focusing switch on the body to manual does and back to AF, does not work
6) the ONLY thing that seems to work is switching body switch to MF, rotating focus ring all the way to the right(infinity) and switch back to AF.
7) I've tried another lens(FA31) and it does not exhibit this problem.

What could this be? How can I correct it? HELP!!!

Sounds like your clutch may be shot.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I have had no problems with my DA* 50-135. Focus is silent (which is kind of disconcerting sometimes) but quick and accurate.

I assume that you're testing the lens in good light, on a nice contrasty subject, right?

I think I'd give Pentax service a call...

Good luck.

The problem occurred both in day light and indoors. So, do you think this is a lens issue?

I'll definitely call Pentax service line.

Try the lens on another SDM-enabled body. I had focusing issues with my 50-135mm and I initially thought it was the lens. Turned out to be my K10D. I sent it (my K10D) in to Colorado and they fixed it up for me!
