Great! The focus confirm should be helpful with some critical focusing, that is, as long as the AF system is in tune. You can check that with a focus chart test but make sure you obey some basic rules.
It'll be great if you could post whether an AF adjustment has an effect on focus confirmation or not. I think it should have an effect.

Yes i could re-check with the Debug software if adjustment has any affect. I was incorrectly trying to adjust AF while only using MF lenses, and manually focusing too.

And here we go.. !

1st test using Catch-in-Focus , Fully manual lens, f2.8 , tripod, remote cable , 45 degree pitch. Looks pretty good to me, if only slightly BF'ing. Zero adustment in Debug software.

2nd test using the same criteria above, but this time @ +200 in Debug software using test area 0. There is a definate change, but its barely noticeable. Has slightly decreased the BF, to my eyes.

Possibly need to back off the adjustment to 150 instead of 200.

Have you approached focus from the same extreme (say infinity) both times? It makes a difference from which end you dial in the focus because the focus confirmation happens in a window rather than a spot.

Also, to be sure you should do several tries with one adjustment setting. A single result won't be conclusive.

It'll be interesting to see if setting the adjustment will provoke definite backfocus.

Note that one setting will typically be optimal for one lens only which is why the K20D and the K-7 have 20 settings. Check your other lenses and either go for a compromise or note down the optimal value for each and set it before use.

yes, i did more than 1 test in the same manner and they bore out the same results. But as you say, its worth doing thses tests with more lenses, but after reading these forums, its said that the adjustments are only really going to affect those lenses with wide aps, perhaps f2.8 or wider.

Since very few of my lenses are that wide, it wont take long to test them using the in cam adjustments

Perhaps I am missing something...I have downloaded the debug program and after I install it (to program files folder) when I try to open it my PC errors that it can't find the file. When I run/install the program should I have the cam connected and install to the camera?
I am running XP.

My problem was solved when I used the download from the Russian site...the English version will not work for me.

Just click browse and find the .exe file and click on that. Worked for me.

My K10 had gotten some pretty severe back focusing issues (maybe because I dropped it awhile back?). It's out of warranty and so I didn't really want to send it in, but I was also a little worried to try the debug mode. Anyway, I went ahead with the debug mode and it has worked great. Actually able to take sharp photos again.

could some one help me. I've downloaded the program but can't get it to run. All I get is turn debug on or turn debug off. What am I doing wrong?

Just turn it on and then disconnect the camera from your computer. Then turn your camera on again and find the debug menu in your menu.

This works great. I was getting very frustrated using my 35 Limited macro but I got into Debug mode and made an adjustment of +100 and the focus seems to be dead on using a focus chart. I was getting ready to send my camera in for testing but I was very nervous as Fall is coming in NH and I don't want to be without a camera. This may be a dumb question but I am assuming that once I have made my changes I turn debug mode off, or do I have to leave it on?

You can turn off the debug mode. The AF adjustment will persist.
