how's *YOUR* K200D battery life ??

How are you folks finding the K200D's battery life to be?

I try to avoid flash photography, and don't do much in-camera review.

That said, I've found Pentax's estimate of 1000/set to be decidedly conservative, and am finding that 4 lithium AA's provide 1500 or more shots.

What say y'all?

I'm using Eneloops and they seem to last a little longer in the K200D than the K100D......not that I had any complaints about the K100D battery consumption. The K200D has been as good and probably slightly better in my experience. I haven't counted the actual number of shots I get before each battery change. Batteries last a week or more, even during weeks where I'm shooting and reviewing a lot shots. I've also turned off the instant review feature on both cameras and use hotshoe or remote flash when I do use flash..

Using 2500 AA NiMH, I was able to do over 1600 shots in continuous mode, with 200 in flash, on my K200D . Admittedly the LCD was not used much. It was just a battery test. I stopped after I exhausted four 2 GB cards and the battery indicator was still full.

I would say indeed that Pentaxs' estimates are conservative.

to sum it up: F***ing awesome!

1926 on the AA Lithiums in the box. havn't used lithiums since because i've got better rechargable batteries this time around. by the same token, i'm getting more shots out of my old Energisers that used to be in the *ist DS.

it must be the lcd review (1 second) that i use, because i don't get anything like those numbers
i got about 800 from a set of energizer lithiums while on holiday
and about 350 each for a set of eneloops and a set of imedions (powerex hybrids)
i do use the lcd quite a bit (not so much flash or cf mode), i like to keep my numbers down a bit so i don't have to sort through so many later

i am amazed at how many photos other people are getting though

I've got a set of Rayovac Hybrids in here (no Sanyos on sale locally in my area) -
currently after the last charge I probably have taken 600 shots and the battery meters still read full. (using the optional grip as well, however)

If I'm gearing up for a long outing, I'll be sure to recharge them the night before, just because.

I got close to 600 shots on a set of Eneloop. The # seems low because I just bought the k200d a few weeks ago and used the screen extensively to get familiar with the menu, in-camera functions, picture viewing, and the flash...etc. If I cut down on the screen usage the # will be much more impressive. So far I am more than happy w/ the battery life.

The K200D battery's life is better than Pentax's specifications. With the available battery grip (Around $100.00) you can double that and have a camera that looks more professional. It really helps in vertical shooting and has a better camera/lens balance, especially heavy lenses.

With Pentax DSLRs, you are in good company.

I'm still wondering how my K200D shoots with the original 4 baterries only in the vertical grip; whereas, when i use rechargeables, i need 8

Recently went to the Montreal F1 with my friend who carries a Sony A200. We were both snapping pictures with 2gb memory cards. After he filled up his (about 400 photos), his batteries needed to be recharged (which was unfortunate cuz we were at the grand prix and he didn't have an extra battery).

My Sanyo Eneloop NiMH lasted me the entire 2gb (~400pics) and an extra 100 pictures of the second memory card. So 500+ photos on a single charge. That includes some indoor flash photography (i'd say about 20%). After my rechargable AA's ran out, i just popped some fresh ones in and kept going My friend just stood there, wishing he could take more pictures.

It's been pretty spuratic for me, the battery indicator shows empty after several shots when I change to new batteries and after a while, it indicates full again. This continues to happen several times in between charges. However, overall the batteries do last longer than the K100d, just not continuously.

That could be the case if you are using older NiMH AA's that's seen its share of charge and discharge cycles. It was like that for me as well.
