Or perhaps it refers to the fact that with manual lenses, multi-segment metering is not supported - only center-weighted or spot. If you have multi-segment selected normally, it reverts to center-weighted when using manual lenses. So for consistency, I just use center-weighted all the time, and find I really like it.

Correct. That was what I was meaning. It would be nice to meter across the frame when using screw mount or M lenses.

I didn't know the bit about the AE-L button mentioned previously, thanks for that.

every one seems to have forgotten there is another way to meter using a pentax DSLR

use the DOF preview, i.e. past on on the on off switch.

the difference between this and green button is the following.

Green button (Or AE bitton on single dial cameras) stops down the lens and sets shutter to match apature and ISO for correct exposure.

using DOF preview, activates the meter and lets you judge the exposure, without changing your shutter speed.

I sometimes wish the green button coould be modified in function to only meter, especially when using flash, where I want to have high sync speed and expose primairly with the flash

Speaking of the green button, I was wondering if the Green Button on the K20D works better than it does on the K10D? I am toying with the idea of trading my K10D and K110D in on a K20D IF the price difference isn't TOO high. But if green button metering on the K20 is as dismal as it is with the K10, I'll pass....

It releases a lot less carbon into the atmosphere on the K20.

Gooshin, you stole my thunder, and you are very knowledgeable about the 'Green" button and Pentax cameras in general. Keep up the good responses as I might need your response in a future date. Just bougt a K10D. Still learning. Great camera, steep learning curve however. I want to be a modern Pentaxian like you! Learned on a K1000 many years ago.
