My understanding of this is that when I press this button it has the same effect as turning the front focus mode select button to MF.
Indeed when I press the AF button the letters MF appear in the viewfinder BUT the lens focus ring is still in autofocus mode i.e. it cannot be freely moved.
Is there something wrong or am I missing the plot somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
No, it doesn't do the same thing as changing the focus method. The camera, by default, will not trip the shutter if you are in autofocus mode and it is not focused. Setting the button to option 2 allows you to override that and expose a shot even if not focused on something.
