You're talking about the top LCD panel and not the back screen, right? The battery blinks on the top LCD panel in the K100D when it's depleted then turns itself off. If you haven't replaced the batteries, do so; you might have one that's bad for some reason so replace them all. If that doesn't help, make sure you don't have something in the battery compartment that's shorting one of the contacts. If not that, I can't think of anything else, it may need to go in to the shop unless somebody else on the Forum has a solution. Good luck,

I am having the same problem, as I type this, on the same camera.
I just bought a new set of Duracell AA's today and and they are charging now.
Hope it works.
I had the best luck with Duracell in the past.
Will let you know tomorrow if all goes well.

Do you perhaps have an old manual aperture lens mounted (or a more modern lens but with its aperture ring not set to "A") and don't have the "Using aperture ring" set to permitted in the custom menu?

Solved the problem thanks to Marc Sabatella.
Changed the batteries for newly recharged ones and still got the AV---.
Changed my lens from a 70-300 to a 18-55 and the 18-55 worked (no AV---).
Changed back to the 70-300 and the AV--- appeared agin.
Used marcs suggestion and located the "A"button and reset it and I am up and running again.
Thanks Marc
