having problems with K100D

ok my dads K100D is having flash problems i have

put in new batters

reset to factory settings

when flash is up shutter will not work, it was working yesterday and has seemed to stop. i was thinking that he hit some thing off settings but like i sed i restored and that should have dun it.

any help would be aprshated.

not with the flash is up, it duse when it is down

it duse nothing when the flash is up

Camera will work with the flash down. When up, it won't shoot til the flash is charged, but it can't charge because a component in the flash circuit is fried.

Maybe if you call service, they will fix it post warranty because it's happened to a number of their DSLRs, and I think it's a known weakness (they used a cheap part) in the design. I've been reading Pentax forums since I bought my K100D in 2006 and seen this topic often.

Sounds like the typical short circuit problem with the flash somewhere. Stop trying and send in the camera to Pentax for repair (if still worth it) or other part of the circuit might be killed eventually. You can of course never pop up the flash and the camera should be fine.

You have a good point. Maybe he should try a suitable external flash or use a multimeter to see if it fires the flash shoe. If it fires, an external flash would solve the problem. The builtin flash isn't so great anyway.

my dad LOVES this camera and he has ben looking for an ancer i hate to tell him the bad news but i will call Pentax and give it a try
