Talking I am glad I decided to get a Pentax

I was shopping for a DSLR, and with all the choice out there, I got stir crazy. But reading the review of the K20D i was like pentax still makes great cameras. So I started looking, and I was swayed toward Nikon for a bit. But then I found an awesome deal on a *ist DS about 2 weeks ago. And it an awesome deal it was
  • *ist DS w/ 18-55mm -$240 - brand new
  • Vivitar 701-210mm f4.5 -$35 - brand new
  • SMC Pentax 50mm f2 - $20
  • Vivitar MC 2x teleconverter $.75 the pawnshop guy didn't know what it was and said i can have it for a dollar but only had 75 cents.

So minus some rechargeable batteries, my total outfit cost me a total of

$295.75

Next will be the k20 but later... I am enjoying the DS just wish it had sync.

Welcome aboard the good ship Pentax! I don't think there's a secret handshake or anything, just get a camera with Pentax on it, a couple of lenses and you're good to go!

The *ist ds produces some of the best images I've seen from any Pentax camera. I think you will enjoy it. And that is some deal you got yourself there. Brand new *st ds last time I checked on Amazon were around $600.00!

I am in the same boat, super glad I chose Pentax. Man, I can look at vintage lenses or even some current ones without having to break the bank. I mean, for other brands you'd be hurting yourself just to dream about the stuff. I have a K110d and do want to step up and get a K10d or even a K20d if this economy gets better.

Great photos!

Ha. My brother who went from C to N figures if a lens costs less than $1,000 it is crap. Of course, I am smarter than him - that's why I have a K20D.

Welcome aboard OP!

I have both the K10D and the K20D and half a dozen Pentax film SLRs. Getting an IR converted IST-DS from frank soon as well.

Pentax is great for the price, hope you enjoy it.

I'm pleasantly surprised you've got such nice kit for so little money. All in all a very smart acquisition.

I have no reason to doubt that you'll love your Pentax gear and you'll produce many-a-wonderful imagery with it.

Welcome to the family!

nice pics, and i do love the k10d i have....but yesterday at lunch after a walk around manhattan i actually had a completely different feeling...

my "local" shop where I have at least tried out all my glass, and where I got most of my big toys (the 50-135, the 55-300, my flash, all my bags, my tripod etc)...i walk in yesterday, wanted to see what they had in....and they have finally gone the route of so many other shops.

no pentax photo gear in shop. 2 days lead time they will get me anything i want....but no more handling and checking it out in person so easily. sucks.

was also bummed they don't do the pop photo work like a couple tiny closets in nyc do. wanted to throw them my business.

but what I find odd, is while they dont have pentax cameras or lenses now....they still have the pentax sporting optics. could be they had more stock to move, or i dunno. but you figure, a camera store in the middle of manhattan, with a sporting optics section including pentax...but not the camera gear....

i was dejected yesterday afternoon, thats for sure
