New to K10D stuck with MF

I recently got a K10D (from my friend). It has firmware version 1.3 on it.
but it is stuck at manual focus mode. I am unable to change that to auto focus.
can some one help? I was using FA and DA lenses.

I go the camera from my friend. he could not remember what he did.

I checked all the custom menu function and auto focus is enabled.
TIA.

Stupid question - but have you tried moving the lever next to the lens mount (right side - front facing you). It has AF-s / AF-c and MF labels. (Auto Focus Single / Auto Focus Continous / Manua Focus)

yes. For some reason it is not going fully to the MF mode (the front dial/adjustment). Since I do not know how it works (it is not brand new), may be there is a broken lever???
when I slide I did not feel it locks. it just moves. I do not know whether that is how it works or not.
I have to apply more force to push it to MF.

However my DL was not that difficult.
I can feel when I change from MF to AF.
but in this K10D, I did not feel like changing it in a lever mechanism (if that is what it is called). It was some thing like free moving.
OK. if that is the problem (mechanical) how easy this can be fixed? can a DIY info available?

I am sorry if I am asking too much.

I bet you have a custom function set to AF only when you press the OK button.

If sewebster is correct, pressing the [AF] button will autofocus the lens. If that happens, then go to the
[C Custom Menu]
[AF by Press Halfway]
and change it to [Yes]

When I change the dial mode to AF-C or AF-S the lens is not locked.
I hope you understand what I mean. I doubt it may be a missing or loose contact and not a setup issue.
when I use AF in DL the only change I can do is the Zoom. the auto focus on the lens is locked or being operated by the camera.
but in this K10D I can still change the lens focus by adjusting the lens. this should not be the case if I use AF.

either the AF is disabled completely ( I do not know) or it is a mechanical/contact issue.

If I can find out which one by some testing then I can decide the next course of action.

I am still thinking it can be a mechanical error. (may be not)
thanks for your inputs.

OH! You are talking about the DA lens. The DA lenses have Quick Shift. The lens can be refocused no matter which focus mode you are in! In the case of my DA lenses, the focus ring will just turn round and round all the way and further. They are designed that way so that you can simply touch up the focus if you think the camera did not do a good enough job without switching to manual focus first.

He says that he can't rotate the focus ring on his *ist DL when in AF mode, so I'm assuming it is not quick shift?

The quick shift is lens based, so his FA lenses won't, but his DA lenses will.

yes FA does not have the quick shift. but neither are working on AF mode.
I am frustrated.
but with what ever manual focus pics I took with K10D they are better than my DL.
the pics are not over exposed (my DL is notorious for this).
but I hate manual focus for regular use.

The one marked red is not not having the top seal. I could see it is like a screw inside.

(please see the next post for a similar looking picture)
so I may be missing the contact.
If so how easy to fix it?

this one is a old K mount and looks very similar to the one I was telling. here it is outside the coupler.

this is for comparison only.

That thing is a screw which should pop up when the cam is set to AF.

Maybe it's stuck somehow...[do it at your own risk] take a pen tip and wiggle it around? There should definitely be "clicks" when you switch focusing modes.
