Shake reduction on monopods

I know that you should turn SR of when your camera is mounted on a tripod but
does this go for a monopod as well. Fair enough you don't need it on a tripod
because it has 3 legs and is more stable, but, a monopod only has 1 so isn't
as stable and can still move around abit.
While on the subject, can it damage the senor or SR system if it is left on
while the camera is used on a tripod. (without 2sec self timer.)

Yes, us it on a monopod. No leaving it on won't harm the sensor, just possibly some soft pics, depending on how sturdy that tripod is, though without the 2 sec. timer you'll probably need the SR anyway.

I use SR on my monopod, which only stabilizes the camera in the vertical plane. SR takes care of any instability in fore-aft, side-to-side, and yaw motions that my hands may (ahem!) introduce.

As to leaving SR turned on while the camera is on a tripod, I second Judocast96.

I'm having trouble figuring out just how SR could make for softness if used on a tripod.... Would this mean it could be working against you if your hands were very steady?

Thanks, I just wasn't quite sure so thought this would be the place to find out.
If I'm using my tripod I normally use the 2 sec timer, which automatically turns of
the shake reduction system anyway.
In the book it says to turn it of on a tripod, it just doesn't say why.

SR on using monopod - K10D + FA* 300/2.8 with 1.7X AF TC. Focal length 510mm. No cropping, sharpening, etc - just applied a sepia tone:

I have had some shots come out bad due to SR with my monopod. I now turn it off. Pentax in the manual recommends turning it off on tripods and also while panning. Many people have chosen to argue the point and have had good photos with the SR on but sooner or later you will get burned and when it happens please don't complain that the camera is broke.

I leave it on for monpods, bean bags, hands and anything else you can think of.

Off for tripods by default, using 2 sec delay timer.

I 've tried both off and on on mononpod, can't see a difference really in number of keepers - this is taking sports photos. Haven't done anything scientific.

I'm just curious about the theory behind the phenomenon. I can see a delay with MLU and hands-off being better than SR and a finger, surely.

I leave SR on all the time when working with my K 300 on a momopod. It seems to work very well for me.
