10d vs. 100d, seems obvious, right?

Hello friends! I need some help. After much time and consideration, I recently jumped into the DSLR field, (I used the Pentax k1000d) purchasing a 100d. I love it and the lenses that it came with, but have recently been presented with the opportunity to purchase a 10d for a very good price. If i get the 10D, I will take the 100 back.

Here's why its complicated: I am moving to Africa for 2 years, and am not sure if I will have electricity! I will be in a place that has two extensive rainy seasons per year, so I know that having weatherproof sealing is very important. I also know that I may not have access to electricity needed to charge the battery for the 10d. I have a solar powered charger, but am unsure of its effectiveness in charging. SO, what should I do? Stock up on lithium AAs for my k100d (is there a weather proof housing that i could purchase?), or purchase the 10D?

What about getting the 200d, it is weather proof and uses AA's. If this is not an option you could try the old ziplock bag method of weather proofing, it doesn't protect against dust but does a pretty good job in rain.

May I take the radical step of suggesting you also take a film SLR of a vintage and model that will work just fine without batteries?

He stated that he had been using film until fairly recently, so I don't think old(ish) lenses would be problem...

anyway, tough choice. With K100 you just take bunch of Lithiums and they'll last...
On the other hand, I switched from K100 to K10 just like month ago and trust you'd love K10. It's a cracking camera and these days you can get it for fabulous money.

As I said, tough choice... good luck

Given the cirumstances, I'd probably look into the K200 as well.

Will you have a car around? Inverters that can convert 12v into 125v or 220v are not expensive, and will let you charge your k10D or let's say SANYO Eneloop batteries for K100D from a car power outlet. I know a pro photographers who was taking 12v sealed motorcycle battery with him as a source for recharging camera batteries on a 10 days hike.

That also happens to be one of my criteria for selecting a lens. No aperture ring = I'm not interested. But I'm also one of the oddballs who can't work up a hell of a lot of interest in any lens that doesn't screw onto the camera.

All I know is that if I had serious doubts about the availability of electricity on such an extended trip, my SV would be making the trip with me.

I plan on taking my Ricoh KR-10 also, so I guess I will be able to shoot film atleast (while using all of my lenses). I'm starting to lean towards the K200d though, thanks for all of the help guys!
