K20D price increase?!

I am seriously considering upgrading my *ist DL to a nice new K20D. I have some gift certificates, and some cash, making the $899 Canadian look pretty attractive.

But now I glance at the price today, and it's gone UP to $1099!! What happened? Anyone have news? I can't believe a consumer electronic good just increased by $200 in one day....

i think the industry nowdays is finaly fluid enough to follow currency exchange rates

FYI, at the bank you would be paying 1.25 canadian for a US dollar.

plus.. christmass is over, and the united states have a new president.

america is trying to save its economy, but you cant have "sales" on forever, you need a break and force consumers to save.

It' worth it, anyway. I just payed a premium for a k20 (probably about $200 more than B&H) because I got good credit terms through another retailer. Can not wait! After much deliberation and consultation, I decided it really is worth the money.........

K20D is $849 at Aden - you should be able to price match that at whatever shop you are talking about (I'm guessing you are talking about Henry's?)

Yup. I was just worried that the price increase will be across the board (all stores) before I can jump...

If henry's wont price match then Blacks will.
Any of their "pro" or super stores will stock the K20d

From what I remember, that's just back up to the normal retail price at Henry's. I'm wondering though if Canada will be seeing a price increase on Pentax stuff soon, like they did in Australia.

I shop at Aden because of their prices, but I'll admit Henry's has a better return policy.

You should get that K20 though!

Wouldn't everyone agree is to wait until when/if the K30 is released before deciding to purchase the K20 now unless you absolutely have to have one now.

price will drop like the stock market.

No, not every would agree.

because chances are when the K30D comes out (which we know nothing about), it will cost more.

and the K20D wont plummet in price, there is a bare minimum for certain electronics, selling for less than that is just bad business sense.

I wondered if the k20D might drop when the K30D is announced.

But from what I recall, when the K20D was announced, the K10D price stayed the same and then CLIMBED from demand as the K10D got scarce.

Forgive me, you might be right, check out this link to Amazon.. a k100d super (body only) is going for more money than a k200d (body only) by more than $200.00. say you say "WOW!!!"?

Also, don't forget that the Yen has been rising like crazy while the dollar has been dropping (and the dollar will drop a *lot* more over the next year because we're printing paper money like crazy to fund all these ridiculous bailouts)-:

Nikon just announced price increases up to 15% in the US...all the Nikon owners are freaked out and trying to find places to buy lenses at the prices before the announcement ;-)

IIRC there was news back in early December that all camera prices would be going up by 10% or more by the end of January. Certainly that's was the buzz over on this side of the pond. That's why I bought a K20D before the New Year. The prices were so low they had nowhere to go but up. Perplexing as to why they were so low, really, with no new flagship model announced.

I was also about to order a K20 from Henrys, but the price has gone up (it's actually $949).

Aden has it for $849, but all the research I've done online points to some bad experiences and outright awefull customer service so I am quite hesitant to buy anything from them.

I'm undecided but I think it may be worth the extra $100 Henrys charges to receive their excellent service (I've ordered a body, lenses and other accessories from them over the years and have always had excellent service...)

Any opinions?

You might want to check out the Fleabay seller Prodigital2000, as they generally offer better deals than some of the other camera places:
