Using old lenses with the K200D

I know these questions may have been asked a gazillion times, but I'll ask them again.

What are things I have to consider while buying old second hand lenses?

What are the setting I need to change in my K200D to use them?

Looking forward to some replies.

Check my pictorial guide to using manual lenses on the DPR forum:

K100D (Super) Pictorial guide to using manual lenses

It's written for the K100D Super, but all of Pentax's DSLRs work pretty much the same.

The guide applies to bayonet mount lenses, you can also buy screwmount lenses if you get a screwmount to bayonet adapter, but I have no experience with them so I won't risk giving you potentially faulty information about them.

In the bayonet world, "M" or "K" lenses work as described in my guide. "A" lenses are fully automatic with respect to metering, which means you can use the camera in automatic or "Av", "Tv" and "Sv" modes. The biggest thing you give up with an "A" lens compared to modern lenses that you have to focus them manually.

One other thing

Which might be helpful, would be a cat-eye focusing screen, unless you find you can get good and sharp manual focus with the kit matte screen.
