no doubt its been mentioned but i loved to read this : "The new 11-point SAFOX VIII+ (lousy name) autofocus system was also quick and reliable even in this pre-production camera. The system uses 9 cross sensors, 2 wide-angle sensors, and has a dedicated assist lamp to help target your subject while shooting in low light. Speaking of low light, I was impressed with how quickly the pre-production camera locked in its focus in uneven and downright bad lighting.
According to a Pentax product person I spoke with, the K-7's new autofocus system detects colors and wavelengths of light which helps its locks in autofocus in tricky lighting conditions such as tungsten. I experienced very little to no "lens hunting" which was a big plus." from:Pentax K-7 Digital SLR | Pentax DSLR

Perhaps it chooses different ISO for minimize DOF than it does for "Action"? Maybe it chooses higher ISO for "Action" thereby using a fast shutter speed but still retaining better DOF.
it will definitely be to do with sensitivity. People who shoot flowers dont want grain, people who shoot skating or race cars can deal with slight noise if it means the perfect shot. (this is very general, obviously in most situations noise isnt even a factor and stuff like panning shots and focussing strategies, whatever)
1. Mirror Lock-Up: Immediate/Remote
I still don't understand how this works. You press the shutter once for MLU and a second time for the photo?
I queried John Carlson on DPR discussion board about this ....appears you select MLU from the mode button that locks the mirror up immediately, you can then trip the shutter at any time. Carlson wasn't sure, but thought there may be a time out on this that is tied to the power down timing.
The MLU with the 2 second timer is also still available.

Ah, thanks!
Might be a nice feature to turn on if you want to irritate a beginner.
Drive mode is even in the Memory, so the camera will mirror-up when you turn it on again.
My friend made quick test of K-7 with DA*55/1.4 (AF assist lamp OFF) and D700 + 50/1.4 (AF assist ON). On tripod in the shop.
Verdict is no any difference.
We also had K20D with DA*55. Worse.
K-7 is MORE prehensile, faster, more accurate.
Pentax never had such AF in DSLR. Not miracle, but VERY GOOD LEVEL. Better than K-m.
It's hard to say that D700 is better than K-7.
A bit...Maybe..Maybe not.
The same level. But it was very quick test (10-15 minutes)
