K-7 is quiteter, however is it really 5.2fps? It is definitely slower than Nikon which is supposed to fire 5 fps.

I wondered that myself.

It could be that the shutter speed was too slow so it couldn't fire fully at 5.2 fps, but it is definitely quieter.

Could be due to

Low battery, early firmware, etc. I'm not concerned about it. Edit: Early non-production engineer version.

Ah the Specs for the Nikon read: 9Fps not 5. And the Pentax doesn't sound half as slow only a little slower. Nice and quiet though.

D3 - Continuous shooting at up to 9 frames per second: At full FX resolution and up to 11fps in the DX crop mode, the D3 offers uncompromised shooting speeds for fast-action and sports photography.

Nikon D3

D3X is 5 FPS

That Nikon isn't firing 9fps.

After listening to it again it does sound on the last part like the Pentax battery is running low.

But it can and we don't know what mode each camera is in. The Pentax could be in RAW + and the Nikon in Jpeg. Or any other combination.

Plus you're comparing a $4400 camera against a $1300 camera that doesn't have the finished firmware.

I bet you haven't heard how it sounds when camera is firing 9fps. It's like a machine gun, that Nikon in video was not firing 9fps.

I don't compare. I say that K-7 in video doesn't fire at the daclared speed of 5.2 fps.

Fair enough. Regardless, it's darn quiet and a lot faster than the K20D. Cool to see how small it is against the D3. When you consider all the stuff packed in that little $1300 body, they have a winner here.

D3 @ full trot YouTube link

I'm guessing both cameras were set to a manual shutter speed that resulted in ± 5.0 fps operation.

Also, we don't know how many times that demo had been run prior to the beginning of this cut. The buffer could be full on one or both cameras.

Just found this Swedish video review of the K-7. At 0:54 there is an excellent sound clip of the K-7 shutter firing at what sounds like a pretty good clip (though maybe not quite 5.2 FPS).

BTW, here is a clip of a Canon 20D @ 5FPS

PS: first time I heard this in person I got goose bumps
