Pentax High ISO Gallery--POST HERE

I have not seen a gallery like this at our forum in over a year. I have been vacationing though, so excuse me if this was recently done. Here is a picture to start the gallery. It was run through Neat Image so EXIF data is stripped. It was shot at f 3.2---2000 ISO.

This one was hand-held, and came out better than I expected on a K10D:

Here's one from the K200D at ISO 1600 with a 1/2 EV push for an equivalent of around ISO 2240. Chroma NR applied in ACDSee Pro 3 (beta):

Rawr: With which camera?
Yes, excellent question. It is with the K20d. Sorry about EXIF absence too, but am willing to send original shot to any PM which leaves me an e-mail address--this is the largest I can post here. I think some would be very surprised with the performance @ 2000 ISO @ full resolution.

Marc that is an excellent shot, amazing detail.!

Duck Dodgers I seldom shoot above ISO 800...can I still play?
Of course! And excellent work. I am just hoping to create a High ISO Gallery for any of the Pentax skeptics.

SouthShoreRob I'll play along...this one under HORRIFIC lighting conditions with K20D and DA* 50-135mm at F2.8. ISO 2500, no post processing, just a simple re-size in PSE.
Really tough conditions--great results.

Thanks, I have been waiting for more of these shots to come down to us.

Thanks! SR helps, as does the fact that he was barely moving at all, and that the M135/3.5 is reasonably sharp wide open. Being able to apply chroma NR aggressively without needing to also apply so much luminance NR also makes a difference. I suppose some would want to see "direct from the camera" results only, but frankly, I don't care so much about that - I care about what results are *possible*, not just what results are *automatic*.

BTW, I feel I'm slowly coming to learn a lot about the different variables that go into determining success at high ISO and how to best control them. As I had begun to speculate in one fo the previous threads on this topic, aside from the well-known advantages of ETTR when practical, things like light color, dynamic range, detail, and surface texture really do play big roles. Any or all of these can make the difference between an impressive or disappointing high ISO shot. But I'm still not sure I can completely characterize how.

At iso 6400 look at the detail, that is awsome. look at that image at 500% and look how defined the pixels are.

I'm impressed. Sure it is grainy, but so what, it ads to the feeling of the B&W image. Very nice.

some koolaid (*istDL with A 50/1.2 @ F = 1.2 & ISO = 3200 & EV +1 in raw converter to make it ~ISO 6400)...
