Pentax K7 Price Watch? Or I am waiting because I am a cheap, errr, frugal SOB thread

OK, I am just cheap...I love the camera but will not buy until the price bottoms out for the first time under $1000...I am shooting for $899. Especially given the fact the lenses are getting more expensive.

So yesterday the K7 dropped in price on Amazon from $1299.95 to $1299.00...yippie!!!

Amazon Price as of the time of this post has INCREASED from $1299.00 all the way up to $1299.95. Looks like they really are out of my bracket due to that extra $0.95...I mean goodness!!

But really a price watch might be fun...I don't expect much movement for a few months yet but ya never know. Once the feel the early adopter market is saturated, ie. the sales 'growth rate' has flattened there will be the first drop. For me that needs to be a $300, to make me get twitchy, but a $400 drop to $899 and I buy tomorrow.

In the mean time we can intersperse the discussion with tips and tricks? I dunno...

Oh, and if you find any eBay (or even other retail sellers!) trusted sellers do not forget the 8% Bing.com discount!! Right now that is worth about $104 less...so if there is one for $1299.99 it would cost $1195.99 after you get the refund. Last time I used it, the Bing.com deal on eBay is only good for BIN purchases. it does not apply to Best Offer purchases.

I will try and post the lowest reported price here at the end of this post so people can find the most accurate info. These prices seem to be changing by the microsecond.

Also Newegg can be a good company to buy from but their prices can be very volatile so check often. Also I'm not 100% certain they are authorized Pentax sellers so check that if it matters to you. Last, like Beach Camera California buyers will be charged sales tax.:

Newegg $1099.00 ~ Currently free Pentax 85120 DSLR Sling Bag Shipping varies (Updated 11/10/2009)

As always...Amazon prices can bounce around a fair amount so sorry in advance if the price is different when you look... I am still holding out for $899-$999ish from a seller where I am comfy buying. I would rather spend an extra $50 for a solid familar seller than save $50 to find I was stepping over dollars to pick-up pennies.

Other Online Vendors (I have never used any of these vendors so research them first)
IBuyDigital.com reported at $1029/Free Shipping - (ResellerRatings.com Report for IBuyDigital.com)

No others so far...but read the thread just in case...plus it's kinda-sorta-silly.

Why wait?

Of course, I would check the validity of that website before ordering!

I love my K200D, have a K100D Super in reserve, and can easily wait this out until the K-7 is well under $1,000. It should be a really nice upgrade for me when the timing/price is right, but I've seen how the K10 and K20 ended up dropping dramatically from their initial pricing, so I'll wait until the K-7 does the same, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Didn't the K100D start out near $1,000? I remember I got excited when I got the K100D and the AF 540 flash for $997.

And as I recall when I was deciding between the 40D and K20D the K20D was still about $900-$1000ish in June of 2008, might have been more but I seem to remember it was still cheaper than the 40D.

BTW, I think the deal of the day right now is the K20D at Amazon for $605...

The K20D dropped $150 in about the first month of release...

I remember because I had it preordered through Beach and a week or two after other places had the camera, they still didn't so I canceled and ordered via Amazon for $1,300... and thanks to their 30-day price guarantee, I got refunded $150!

I'm planning on waiting until the K-7 drops to $1k or so before I get too serious about buying...

I was not about to wait until summer is over to save a few bucks on the K-7. I got 5% Bing cashback and free one day shipping.

The body was just released a few weeks ago...I'd predict you wont see any significant price decrease until toward the end of the year (or around the beginning of the Holidays).

In the UK currently the price seems to be £1,179 body only from most reputable dealers.

I suspect that that price will come down in the next month or so but not by much. At the moment we're looking at £21 off the RRP which is not very much at all and I think its the result of limited supply and relatively high demand.

Perhaps we shall see £1,100 by mid-August once stock levels and demand stabilise.

My main reasons for waiting are:

1) I'll need to buy a second battery and around an 8GB SD card (for video). Both this will add about £100 - which tips me over the affordability threshold

2) There have been some sensor overheating issues and generally speaking I think its a good idea to wait for the production to settle down a little anyway

3) I resent paying so much more in the UK than elsewhere and would consider importing from the EU as there VAT is already included but there are still additional risks compared with buying in the UK
