Post your k-7 low light photos

Hi,

I'm weighing up the k-7 I was originally going to buy as soon as it came out I still have a pre-order deposit with srs but due to the sensor problems and a few other things I'm holding out for maybe a month. I also want to see samples first.

Please post you low light k-7 sample photos with the iso info and noise reduction info

Just found this, seems very good up until 1600 then gets very bad very fast!!!

Also if anyone has any low light video samples that'd be great too

There are lots and lots of K7 high ISO sample image all over this forum. Seek nd ye shall find

Here are some theater shots, stage lighting is really tricky and these shots of the rock opera Tommy, were shot at ISO 1600 with my K-7 and the DA* 50-135 lens wide open at f/2.8. The first two images btw, were picked up by a couple of newspapers in their review of the show.

the chroma noise in the 6400 iso k-7 is 10x worse then the k20d....

The photos were taken in RAW with default noise reduction parameters and converted with Silkypix Release Candidate with default settings (meaning that a default noise reduction is applied).

Actually here's a shot at 1/60, 3200iso and f4.

Shot in raw and tweaked in CS4, I applied a bit too much noise reduction though, however it shows that the K7 isn't useless at HIGH ISO as others and I myself initially thought.

The shooting conditions are exceptionally poor without a doubt.

For these high iso shots, I was mostly in Av, except photo 8 (2000iso) and 9 (1600iso) where I used full manual mode M.

For all the shots, I first tried to expose the photos correctly, ie. use the whole range, and stay where possible just below the clipping. For the full resolution shots, 1-7, I just converted the RAWs into JPG using the none finished release candidate of Silkypix in default settings (the default settings do apply a noise reduction).

For the remaining shots, I tweaked the RAW conversion parameters and did a little bit of post processing. I tried to avoid any operation which brings out the noise, so I did not lighten up the shots, did not increase the contrast and did not apply and contour sharpening.

Can you elaborate a bit more on silkypix please? i've never used it before, how is it compared to CS4?

I can't help you much in comparing the Adobe Raw Converter in CS4 and Silkypix. I am using Silkypix since quite a few years and find it a great RAW converter. I do like it's natural "film like" color rendition. The user interface of Silkypix might seem a bit strange at first, but after a while, I have got used to it and find it very effective.

I do also have CS4 but I do not use it for the RAW conversion. I somehwat never got used to its user interface.

Here's a real push for Pentax - low light moving objects.

ISO 4000. Used noise ninja for the NR, before I created my K7 profile. Still some noise there, but I'm not afraid to shoot at this ISO with the K7

Also ISO 4000 with auto profiled noise ninja reduction
