Since I'm eventually going to be picking up a film/slide scanner for myself, I was perusing B&H and found this one:
Plustek Technology Inc. | OpticFilm 7200 Film | A11-BBM31-A

For $219, it sounds like a good deal and it would take up a lot less space on my already-crowded desktop. Does anybody have any experience with this one?

Thanks!
Heather

Yes. No question. Sharper, better colors. That pink sky that was such a dead giveaway for me is gone... heh.

Buying the CD is always an option when you want a quick distribution, but always scan your own when it matters... Good work.

Off the subject... I used to live in LA... is that Los Angeles? Where was that taken?

That scanner looks and sounds pretty good.

Woof, I live in North Alhambra, where Pasadena and San Marino come together. That park is located in ELA it is called Belvedere park..It is a beautiful park located right smack in the middle of a bad part of town....But the folks who hang out at the park are really nice terrific people...I try and get out there 2-3 a week simply for the walk around the lake...I have been taken portraits of folks there for the past year and give them to the family's and those who work and hang around there for free...

Seamus. This is the Scanner I was speaking about. Buy HP Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner direct from the HP Home & Home Office Store
Problem with buying this scanner would be you will need to buy additional software...Either Silverfast SE which makes ''specific'' software for scanner models or vue scan that works with most scanners. ...

Sea. Look at this thread Pentax Forum: Picture Of The Week 3-16-08 - photo.net lOOK for Justin Serpico's images. He uses the G4050 scanner / silverfast.

Those are great photos, and thanks for the additional info on the HP I think that might be my choice, though it seems as though a lot of these scanners do a very good job despite some people saying I should get a dedicated film scanner.

I've heard of it...

The thing I miss the most about LA... well two things... first is the Angeles Crest. As a photographer, I used to love to go up there. There are some incredible sights... spent a goodly amount of time hiking around the Cucamonga Wilderness. If you have not spent time up there... go!

The other thing I miss is Kanan Dume out to Point Dume in Malibu. Hiked around those mountains a lot too...

Best,

Wow. Niiiiiiiiiiiiice pictures. I love the shots of the Tar Pits. I worked a short walking distance from there on Wilshire. Used to go down to LACMA over lunch to catch the latest exhibit. I work in New Haven now. Peabody Natural History is just down the way <the light comes on>... heh.

Your pics of the birds at the pond are great too. I will dive into these some more after work. Thank you.

it cost me 50 bucks to have new metering put in by the local camera repair guy

The better question is who doesn't love their K1000?
