I've just been converting some records to digital and feel like maybe thats sacralige.

But at least I do have a LP player, Maybe I should go find some B+W film for my MZ-6 and MZ-M and learn how to develop......

well I certainly don't have a Linn (Sondek LP12?) or quite that many albums but I applaud the tube amplification, very nice. I myself use an Audio-Technica/Signet setup, and no tube amps for me. you are very much analog, I must say.

You can do both. They haven't made any good LP players for cars or portable/exercise use yet and I wouldn't hold my breath. Save the good stuff for when you're really listening.

Goodwill had a sweet Sony direct drive table for $15, but the weight on the end of the arm was broken off (and it had the torque thingy integrated in it) and it probably needed a new stylus. Ugh it was almost a good deal Really not in the mood to hunt for an arm that may or may not be readily available.

It looked like the modern Techniks tables with the RPM timing light and cue switch...don't even have to touch the arm unlike my Pioneer which needs lots of guidance

why not look on eBay for a good used Technics? they're really good and a lot cheaper than a new one. for example, I've got a Technics SL-220. It's "just" a belt drive, so there's a little wow, but it's usually not detectable. Still sounds great though. In fact, I'm listening to some Chopin records I just found on it, and they're great!

Although I do want a Direct Drive turntable. I'll just add it to the "buy when I've got the money" list...

Well I only have 3 TT, 2 B&Os + Sony but only 5 ft. of records. However I have 3 Tanberg's Real to Real and 100 or so tapes. Do I qualify in this "club" ?

I also have analog. LinnLp12/Ittock arm/Grado wood cartridge. Sota Saphire/ Sumiko arm/ Klipsch MC cartridge (ruby cantilever), Pioneer PL-L1000A DD linear tracking turntable with adjustable arm height(weighs as much as Sota)/ Audio technica cartridge. Kind of want a new VPI too.

Not as many tape players. Nakamichi CR3A cassette recorder, Nak 250 portable player, and a vacume tube mono reel to reel. Wish I hadn't sold the Teac 10.5" reel years ago.

Sonic Euphoria transformer passive line stage, Audible Illusions Modulus M3A tube preamp, Carver Tube hybrid preamp, Bottle Head Foreplay tube line stage, Musical Concepts modified Hafler DH110 transistor preamp.

VTL ST-150 tube amp, Pass home built Son of Zen mono blocks, Series 20 class A 30w/ch transistor amp, 2 Musical Concepts mod Hafler DH500 transistor amps, and others.

Don't think Brendan meant 8 track cartridges! He is rich. Said pro recorder. Thinking something like a Scully Reel or Revox running 1" tape with 8 tracks. Like albums are recorded (good ones any way). Doubt you can buy 8 track blank tape cartridges any more. Who would buy them? How many of those machines still work?
Makes me want to spin some lps later tonight.

Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to it...I'm still trying to find some nice '80s floor speakers and receiver for the 36" tall media rack I bought from Goodwill for $8 Full-on 80s Hifi system for the bedroom, which is going to be styled in the 80s too

My dad has probably 1-2 thousand LP's in our bonus room. I listen to them quite often as does he. played on a CS5000 through a Odyssey Statros power amp and then through a pair of huge VMPS speakers.

Can't beat it.

Perhaps, but then the 8 track cart WOULD whomp in the middle of Stairway to the next pair... And yes, there's a subculture that maintains and restores the old 8 tracks...

I reached a point of retro-satisfaction with my hifi set, no longer in the GAS or GBA... I have the Linn LP-12, usually a Shure V15mr but sometimes a Grado. A dbAudio phono preamp (because I screwed up building the phono preamp for the next item, an Audio Note pre amp kit, then either a Quicksilver GLA or a 7 watt single ended 300b tubed Audio Note kit amp. I use a $5 cd player from a yard sale - it replaced the same model I threw out a few years ago, and replaced a Sony sacd player also. A Marantz. And a 70s vintage Radio Shack tuner, although it was tricked out by a specialist FM outfit. Upstairs I have a Marantz 2216B.

Downstairs, I have JBL Lancer 77's with a home brew series crossover to modern ribbons. These are from the late 60's or very early 70s. Upstairs, Lancer 44's that have the LE8 full range drivers, also from that time period.

In the basement: Dyna a25's, some old Electro Voice speaks that for some reason sing on tubes but sound retarded on transistors. Oh and a Musical Concepts modified Dyna ST70. and*sigh* a 6 channel Adcom amp, plus a Le..La..Lexicon? surround sound processor, and some more miscellaneous speakers. The Dyna's are hooked up as the main pair for the TV down there.

As I said, my GAS is over, building those damn amps got me most of the way there, and then finding the JBL's finished me off.
