Rewind Lever on Winder ME II

I just rewound my first roll using the Winder ME II. It seems I have to keep the winder's rewind lever held upward in order to rewind the film (it stopped rewinding once I let the lever down). Is this correct? I ask because the owner's manual seemed to indicate that the lever needed merely to be "pushed up," rather than held as one rewinds.

Thanks,
Glen

Hmmm, Not sure I follow. What I do is.
push the button underneath it up to release the tabs.
flip the lever on the film cartridge up and turn clockwise until there is no more drag. Right when it gets to the very end of the the roll it will stiffen up a tad and then once the film is all the way in, it gets real easy and smooth.

Glen,

I have a Winder ME II on my ME Super and when I want to rewind the film I have to hold the winder lever in "up" position all the time while rewinding.
So, I believe that this is normal behaviour for ME II Winder.

Regards,
Bostjan

You have hit the nail on the head, Bostjan. This is precisely what I was trying to confirm. I was not sure if I needed to hold the lever in the "up" position the whole time--now I am sure.

Regards,
Glen

Page 10 of my ME II manual states otherwise.

Push the film rewind lever of the winder in the direction of the arrow: This locks the camera film rewind lever in the upraised position so that you may rewind the film
Emphasis mine.

That is true... manual indeed states that the lever should lock... but, my winder does not lock it. It could be that mine is faulty...

JCSullivan: I have the manual, too, and page 10 is exactly what I had in mind when posting this thread. Does your lever, indeed, lock in place, or do you have to hold it up in order to rewind?

I find this all very interesting, as my winder (bought used) is in great condition, and when I push the lever up, I do not get any sense that there is something amiss (that something is broken or that I should hear it click in place, etc.).

Thanks,
Glen

This locks the camera film rewind lever

I believe you guys are reading this wrong. it states that the film rewind lever on the camera locks, not the winder. all it is saying is that by pressing that button up (which just pushes a pin up to push in the rewind unlock button on the bottom of the camera) locks this button in position ) the same way it will lock if you press it with your finger) to allow film rewind. it mentions nothing about anything on the winder itself locking.

Absolutely, seamuis...after rereading the manual earlier this morning, I had noticed this, but I am still somewhat perplexed by the fact that the lever needs to be held in order to rewind the film.

Thanks,
Glen

are you absolutely sure it has to be? if so then maybe the button on your camera is faulty. take off the winder and press the button (not while film is loaded ) make sure the camera is cocked. it should lock in the up position. fire the shutter and cock it again, the button should pop back up. im only basing this on my use of the winder MX and testing the film unlock button on my ME-F.

Yes, when I rewind with my winder, the lever must be held in the up position. When I rewound a roll yesterday, as soon as I let the lever down, I was no longer able to rewind (it stopped). Again, this seems odd to me, but perhaps this is the way the winder works. Either that or my winder is faulty (and JC's would be faulty, too).

Thanks...I will be interested to know what happens. I have a second ME Super body coming (it should arrive today). I will try the winder on this body--with no film loaded--and see what happens.
