The LED Light Cube

I don't do flash, don't even know how to spell flash. I do ambient low level light - sometimes referred to as darkness or night by most. But, I did find this interesting. Even if it makes it to market, they will probably not support Pentax. So, for what its worth....

My reading of this is that it would be available in manual mode for all cameras but first firmware to integrate with a camera system would be Canikon (of course). Thanks for the link. Interesting.

I wonder why we don't already have LED flashes?

Power output and duration at full intensity (since I wouldn't consider the "flashes" on cameraphones to be photographic quality). LEDs take a lot longer to go from "off" to full power than a xenon flash bulb. This "cube" sounds like it uses a camera shutter to shield a continuously lit LED (1/8000 to 30 sec flash durations?) and a fresnel lens to direct the light. This may explain why it is such a big box! The tricky part is getting the timing right for two traveling shutters!
