Here are 2 macro shots using the K-01 and F100/2.8 macro
Prototype firmware (pls note)

Its prototype atm, PDCU does not process the file properly for now (ie. no exp adj and such). (update expected soon)
Ironically, all this can be done in ACR

had to do highlight recovery on this one, so don't read too much into it.

Macro and the K-01 with its focus peaking. I think it will be a winner

wish it has an articulated screen

Without a viewfinder, an articulated screen would have been better. Would be hard to MF and long lenses. ONE important thing: Pentax needs to make the logo look consistent. The font (PENTAX) used on K-01 is much better.

Too bad this was proto-type firmware. No peaking implemented yet on this version of firmware.

I did use a hood-loupe with it, which worked very well indeed.
Shutter response is certainly fast and better than the 'double shutter' one implemented on the K5.

Something you can challenge other camera users to do with their camera and surely WIN with the K-01

Attention!

The camera sitting level on all 4 edges is pretty funny (and potentially useful on at least 3 of them). Have you tried the 40mm XS on a K-5 or other older body yet?

I thought the XS lenses would not work on older bodies, only the K-01 (and probably newer mirrorless cameras).

I think some people are missing the point of this camera, STOP thinking of it as a Digital SLR, and compare it with, say, a Leica M9....compare it for size, compare it for weight, consider the live viewfinder that everyone understands over the quirky rangefinder that not everyone likes....then battery life, now very importantly the HUGE choice of lenses and then compare the PRICE.
Remember how popular the boxy rectangular rangefinder and viewfinder cameras have been with the general public down the years, (who were put off by SLRs) how many millions were sold and used, THEN take a fresh look at THIS camera.
It really COULD be a winner if the marketing is right!

The news so far doesn't seem to be conclusive. From the high res photos posted of the 40mm XS the mount seems to be the same as that of the regular DA 40mm, so there is no obvious physical reason it wouldn't mount and operate on an older body.

If it ends up working the the older bodies, it will be a nice addition when I get the K-01 with the 40mm, cause I certainly won't buy it with the other lens combinations as I have the 18-55mm which came with my K-5, and I don't need the 50-200mm. But a 40mm that can work on both bodies, sure, why not.

I love old Volvo's, 264, 265 had few of those in the past years, perfect cars!
I like styling of K-01 and with an external field monitor and peaking it could be very enjoyable camera.
AV socket on the side so no problem with connecting external monitor while on the tripod.
Can the green button do stop down metering with M lenses?
